According to prison physicians, OJ Simpson may have only three months to live as a result of his diabetes and otherwise unhealthy lifestyle behind bars.
Simpson’s unusually high blood pressure, expanding waistline and lack of physical activity are all contributing factors to his declining health. Allegedly, Simpson spends his prison days lounging about and rising from bed only to retrieve sugar-filled snacks.
Doctors first acknowledged his decline in health during a May hearing, when observers realized Simpson had gained a considerable amount of weight. The National Enquirer claims that he weighs 300 pounds.
“OJ doesn't care,” an unidentified prison friend said. “He knows he's never going to get out of prison, so he refuses to take care of himself.”
Simpson has been reported being withdrawn from the rest of the prison community, often singing The Wizard of Oz’s “If I Only Had a Brain” to himself.
A friend of Simpson’s said that when people talk to him, he often looks glassy-eyed. He also ignores his family, though they’re trying to support him.
Simpson faces 33 years in prison after a robbery he committed in 2008, when he allegedly admitted to killing his wife and her close friend. With so many years ahead in prison, observers believe he may be preparing for any early death.
Simpsons lawyer Ozzie Fumo said he hasn’t heard anything of his client’s poor health.
“As far as I know his health is very good, he was doing just fine,” Fumo said. “I just spoke to him on Saturday.”
Fumo added that he and Simpson had meals together and discussed health issues, but diabetes never came up.
