Ebola In The U.S.: Nurse Might Have Had Symptoms On Plane Flights

The second nurse who was diagnosed with Ebola after treating Thomas Eric Duncan may have experienced symptoms four days before health authorities originally indicated – which would mean she flew as a passenger on two commercial flights while possibly contagious, reports CNN.

Amber Vinson reportedly had a low-grade fever when she flew on Frontier airlines from Cleveland to Dallas on Monday, but officials say a low fever doesn’t necessarily point to the Ebola virus. But once Vinson was hospitalized on Tuesday, Dr. Chris Braden of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said that “we have started to look at the possibility that she had symptoms going back as far as Saturday … We can’t rule out (that) she might have had the start of her illness on Friday.”

Vinson reportedly flew from Dallas-Fort Worth to Cleveland on Frontier flight 1142 last Friday and the CDC announced it is now contacting every passenger who was on board that flight.

Dr. Marguerite Erme, a medical director in Summit County, Ohio, says Vinson indicated through interviews with the CDC that she wasn’t feeling well as far back as Friday, but that “it was nothing you could point your finger at and say, ‘Ah, this is a particular disease.’”

While in Ohio, Vinson reportedly felt fatigue, muscle ache and malaise.

Frontier says it is reaching out to a total of 800 passengers, including those who few alongside the patient on Friday and passengers on board five trips taken by the same plane used in the last flight.

In addition, 12 people who came into contact with Vinson in Ohio are reportedly currently under quarantine. They include two workers at a bridal shop Vinson had stopped in while planning her wedding. The CDC is attempting to reach anyone who visited the Coming Attractions bridal shop at the same time as Vinson, reports NBC News. The owners of the shop reportedly closed their doors voluntarily in the wake of this scare.
