News Anchor Paula Lopez Has Gone Missing, Say Authorities

A Santa Barbara news anchor was confirmed missing today by authorities.

Paula Lopez, a long-time news anchor of KEYT-TV Channel 3, last spoke to her family at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, but has not been seen or heard from since, according to Santa Barbara sheriff officials. There has been no evidence of foul play, but her family is concerned about her welfare.

Authorities have searched the area near Lopez’ home, near Cathedral Oaks and North San Marcos roads, using helicopters and search dogs but have so far come up empty handed.

The news station, too, released a statement saying the Lopez has been missing since Wednesday morning.

"We have been in touch with her family and know they, as well as local authorities, are doing everything possible to find her safe and sound," KEYT General Manager Mark Danielson said in the statement. "Our thoughts and prayers are extended to Paula as well as her family and those searching to find her.... We hope for her safe and speedy return."

Lopez, 48, is 5-foot-2 with dark hair, and was last seen wearing a black sweat suit and tennis shoes.

According to her biography, Lopez is married to Santa Barbara County Superior Court Judge Frank Ochoa and the two have three children. She began working for the KEYT news station back in 1985 as an intern.

Authorities have asked anyone with information to call detectives as (805) 681-150.
