Statistics recently released by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) show that men are increasingly opting for plastic surgery. These days, women aren't the only ones looking towards surgical enhancements, says WebMD ( Cosmetic procedures performed on men increased 2 percent over the last year, to 1.1 million procedures performed in 2010.

Even with the bad economy, many procedures experienced huge gains over the last year. Liposuction procedures performed on male patients increased by 7 percent over 2009 rates. Some of the most popular surgical procedures for men include facelifts, breast reduction, and rhinoplasty.

Why are men suddenly flocking to plastic surgery? While the statistics don't reveal the motivations behind surgery, ASPS member Dr. Stephen Baker said that vanity may play a part. "The typical male cosmetic surgery patient that I see is an average guy who wants to look as good as he feels," said Dr. Baker. "Most of my patients are 'men's men,' the kind of guy you might not think would have plastic surgery."

Some of the other key findings:
- Botox treatments, one of the fastest growing categories of cosmetic procedures, were up 12%
- 48% of all patients undergoing cosmetic surgery were between 40 and 54 years old
- While plastic surgery is growing more popular among men, 91% of all cosmetic procedures are performed on women
- Patients in the U.S. spent an estimated $10.1 billion on cosmetic procedures last year
