Mother of two, 43-year-old Heather Beal, revealed her secret compulsion on the TLC’s “My Strange Addiction” season premier: drinking paint.
The Alabama native admitted that she has had close to three gallons since she first started three years ago – enough to paint her living room twice.
“As it's going down your throat it feels very nice and warm, almost like a thicker version of warm milk,” Beal said. “But obviously, it's got that very strong chemical taste, which is perfect to me.”
Beal said she prefers to consume paint from markers because it most satisfies her cravings.
Beal noted that addiction first began after the death of her mother, and that no one has seen her drink paint.
Later in the episode, Beal takes a trip to the doctor’s office, where she discovers that she has done damage to her kidneys. When asked how she would feel if her children drank paint, she vowed to kick the habit, and reported in an interview with TLC that she had not touched the substance since her appointment.
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration, users like Beal can lose the ability to walk, talk or think.
