One of the young actresses on ABC’s hit family sitcom "Modern Family" opened up to the press about her recent battle with a serious kidney disease.
Sarah Hyland, who plays Haley Dunphy on the show, told Seventeen Magazine that she had to undergo an emergency kidney transplant as a result of the latest turn of her life-long struggle with kidney dysplasia. According to the article, Hyland underwent the procedure on April 13th.
Hyland is 21-years-old, though her character on “Modern Family” is only 17. She says that the experience going through major surgery has made her realize which people in her life she can turn to for support.
“You that family is always going ot be there for you – no matter what. My dad gave me a freakin’ kidney!” Hyland told Seventeen. “But it’s also the families that you create outside of your [biological] family. And you really find out what kind of people you’re friends with.”
