Michael D. Nash Sues U.S. Government for $10 Million Over Partial Penis Amputation

Army veteran Michael D. Nash is suing the federal government for $10 million because a Veterans Administration nurse allegedly put ice packs on his penis after his penile implant and circumcision surgery, which caused a string of misfortune.

The nurse applied ice packs to Nash's groin to reduce pain and swelling for about 19 hours, causing frostbite and gangrene, which led to his penis being partially amputated at the VA hospital in Lexington, Kentucky in October 2010, reports the Associated Press.

Nash's attorney Larry Jones told theAssociated Press: "It basically caused frostbite on his penis, which eventually caused gangrene. In addition to robbing someone of their manhood, they've robbed him of the simple ability to urinate just like every other person who lives in this world."

Nash initially tried to get financial compensation from the VA under the Federal Tort Claims Act, but the Department of Veterans Affairs reviewed his claim and rejected it in July: "It is our opinion that there was no negligence on the part of the Department of Veterans Affairs or any of its employees in connection with the claimed loss; therefore your claim is denied."
