Many are criticizing "Goonies" actress Martha Plimpton for boasting she had her "best abortion" at age 19 at a clinic in Seattle, Washington.
The 46-year-old star made the comments during a June Q&A session at a #ShoutYourAbortion event, reports the Daily Mail.
The video only recently sparked controversy after it circulated online. The event at which she was speaking was in June.
"Seattle has some particular significance for me for lots of reasons," said Plimpton, who has undergone two abortions in the past. "I’ve got a lot of family here, some of whom are here in the audience tonight. I also had my first abortion here at the Seattle Planned Parenthood! Notice I said 'first'...and I don’t want Seattle -- I don’t want you guys to feel insecure, it was my best one. Heads and tails above the rest. If I could Yelp review it, I totally would."
Plimpton continued, thanking the doctor who performed the abortion.
"And if that doctor’s here tonight, I don’t remember you at all, I was 19. I was 19, but I thank you nonetheless," she said, as the crowd cheered. "You probably won't remember because I wasn't that famous then."
While the audience approved of her remarks, many on social media were outraged by them.
"She makes it sound like she went out and got a latte," commented one person in the Daily Mail's comments section. "This is just revolting."
"It's comments like this that made me stop supporting the pro-choice movement," commented a second. "I can't align myself with people like Plimpton."
"Abortion is a sad option," tweeted another. "Sorry you had to glorify it."
"Who goes out and brags about this?" asked a third "What a sleaze bag."
Even some pro-choice advocates were not impressed.
"I'm pro choice but that's an incredibly tasteless comment about something that shouldn't be treated lightly even if it was absolutely the right choice for her at the time," commented one person.
"I'm pro choice but that's a really moronic comment," agreed another.
It's not the first time Plimpton has publicly discussed her abortions. The pro-choice activist often speaks out about her experiences.
"For me in particular, because I did have two abortions as a young woman, I feel that my ability to access that kind of medical care made it possible for me to live out my dreams and do what I really want to do in life," she told ABC in 2015.
