A famous West Hollywood hot spot is putting an end to bachelorette parties to protest the state of California’s stance against marriage equality.
The popular libation joint The Abbey has thrown its hat into the political ring for the first time, preventing women from celebrating their pending nuptials until all marriages are recognized in the Golden State.
“We love our straight girlfriends,” said bar owner David Cooley. “But it’s also a slap in the face to my customers and my life that we can’t have that same celebration.”
The Abbey is a world famous bar that caters primarily to homosexual men. It has twice been named the “Best Gay Bar in the World.” On most Friday and Saturday nights, The Abbey serves over 10,000 patrons including packs of straight women who come to (cough) enjoy the male dancers.
Brian Rosman, spokesman for The Abbey, told the Daily News that the bar needed to take a stand for marriage equality. “It was just kind of, enough is enough,” he said.
