Hip-hop star Kanye West reportedly will not be leaving Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles as soon as expected.
A week after checking into the hospital with symptoms of dehydration and exhaustion, he is still not well enough to go home, according to TMZ. He has also reportedly exhibited symptoms of depression and paranoia.
“This has been going on for years,” a source told People. “In the past when Kanye seemed to struggle, no one took it too seriously. The attitude was more like it was just Kanye being Kanye.” The same source speculates that his ability to function is compromised without his wife Kim Kardashian at his side.
Another source told People that West was “used to leaning on her. Since Kim has had her own issues to deal with, the roles have been reversed. Kanye has had to stay strong to support Kim, and it’s like he can’t handle it anymore.”
Just days before checking into the hospital, West made headlines when he went on a rant supporting President-elect Donald Trump during a concert, reported CNN. He surprised his audience by confessing that he “would have voted for Trump” if he had voted. He abruptly ended that show after only three songs, and canceled the tour’s remaining dates.
According to what an anonymous source told Us Weekly, West has not been the same since Kardashian was allegedly robbed at gunpoint in Paris in October. That incident “did a number on him as much as Kim," said the source. "The mere thought that anything could happen to her sent him in a tailspin."
When West checked into the hospital, Kardashian flew from New York to be at his bedside, reports the Los Angeles Times. They reportedly spent part of Thanksgiving together, before she left to spend the remainder of the holiday with her family at the home of Kylie Jenner, Kardashian's half-sister.
