A Florida man was able to save his son from an alligator attack during an incident that took place on a canoe trip. When 6-year-old Joey Welch stumbled into the water and found himself in the grip of an alligator’s jaw, his father, Joseph Welch, came to the rescue.
"I immediately heard this scream coming out of him so I raced down the hill and I could see that an alligator had latched on to his right arm," Joseph said. "So I ran in to the water. It was about waist deep. I had my son like this here, because I didn't want to play tug-of-war with the alligator and get his arm ripped off. So while I'm doing that I started punching the alligator on top of the head as hard as I could."
Luckily, a Good Samaritan came over to help, WSVN reported.
“Kicked the alligator in the stomach, in the mid section while I was punching him,” Joseph said. “Fortunately, the alligator did eventually release and I was able to my son out of the water."
Joey described the attack like this: "The alligator went like this and grabbed my arm and I couldn't get out.” He was taken to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries.
