Ireland Nugent, 2, Walks with Prosthetic Legs, After Losing Legs to Lawn Mower (Video)

Ireland Nugent, 2, lost part of her legs after her father accidentally backed over her with a riding lawn mower in April.

The toddler underwent seven surgeries and was released from the Tampa General Hospital in Tampa, Florida in May.

Ever since then she has been in a small wheelchair.

However, she took her first steps today with her new prosthetic test legs in a five-hour fitting at Prosthetic and Orthotic Associates in Orlando, Florida (video below).

According to theTampa Bay Times, her dad Jerry Nugent recorded the big moment on his iPad.

"I'm just speechless and so proud," said Jerry. "She took it over the top. She's not ever going to hold back. That's my superhero. That's my angel."

Jerry was driving his riding lawn mower up the driveway at their Palm Harbor, Florida home when his wife Nicole frantically motioned with her hands. She wanted him to stop, but Jerry misunderstood, backed up and hit Ireland.

According to police, Jerry dragged Ireland down the driveway and onto the street before realizing what had happened. He quickly called 911 and swaddled the girl in a blanket.

Her legs were severed below the knees, and she had minor injuries to her hand and thumb. Fortunately, a neighbor who was a nurse treated Ireland until paramedics arrived.

Ireland's mother Nicole told reporters in April that neighbors began raising funds so that the Nugents could get prosthetic limbs for Ireland.

On Monday, experts at Prosthetic and Orthotic Associates warned her parents that Ireland might not like her new little legs, but when prosthetist Stan Patterson said he would need the test limbs back, Ireland said: "I want to keep my legs."

Ireland will receive her final prosthetic legs to take home on Tuesday.
