A sad story out of Texas where a pregnant woman is hit by a car, gives birth to her baby, and then dies. Police are looking for the hit-and-run driver.
Diann Ford, 22, was walking home from her job at a Long John Silver's restaurant last Tuesday night in San Marcos when a car hit her and took off. A passing driver later found her.
Ford was rushed to a hospital in Austin where she gave birth to a baby girl on Wednesday. However, she succumbed to her injuries and passed away on Thursday.
Co-workers described Ford as a caring and friendly person who was very excited about the prospect of being a mother.
“She had picked out a name,” her boss Kris Jaccard said. “She knew she was having a girl.”
Police say the only description of the car Ford could give before she died was that it was dark colored with bright headlights.
The police report points out that Ford was crossing an access road that had no crosswalk and that she was wearing dark clothes, all of which could have contributed to this tragedy.
Ford was 37 weeks pregnant. The baby is at the hospital's pediatric intensive care unit.
