Could Holiday Spices be Dangerous? Here's How

You already know it's a good idea to wash your hands, especially while preparing your big holiday feast. But there are some holiday-specific health concerns you might not be aware of. In a new video clip on, Walgreens pharmacist Stacia Woodcock outlines what to look out for this festive season.

Certain spices can interfere with prescription medications. Cloves, thyme and sage can "interfere with the body's natural ability to utilize medication, and either increase or decrease their effectiveness," says Woodcock. It's important to talk to your doctor or pharmacist, and make sure these spices don't interact with any medications you're taking.

Also, pharmacies often have limited hours during the holiday season, meaning you may get stuck without medication. Make sure you're well stocked up on over-the-counter remedies, and keep up to date on your prescription refills - depending on what medication you're taking, missing a dose could be dangerous.
