Harry Irwin Kills Wife of 70 Years Because 'He Couldn’t Take it Anymore'

Harry Irwin, 93, was charged with murdering his 95-year-old wife Grace Irwin in Kansas City, Missouri, last week.

A Jackson County prosecutor filed a second-degree murder charge on Wednesday against Irwin, who remained hospitalized with self-inflicted stab wounds in his chest, reports the Kansas City Star.

Paramedics were called to the couple’s home at 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday and found Grace Irwin in bed with blood on her head. Her cause of death has not been released.

A paramedic said Harry Irwin sat unresponsive in a chair, with blood on his shirt and arms. The paramedic said Irwin regained consciousness and said he had killed his wife and tried to off himself.

Court records stated that Harry Irwin also told a nurse at the hospital that he killed his wife because “she was arguing and screaming at him all night and he couldn’t take it anymore.”

Neighbors said the wife had been in poor health. The couple’s children and grandchildren visited them often. The Irwins had been married for 70 years.
