Elton John has canceled all of his Las Vegas performances through May after contacting a "potentially deadly" bacterial infection.
The "Rocket Man" singer's scheduled performances at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace have been canceled after he became "violently ill," CNN reported. Another scheduled concert in Bakersfield, California, has also been called off.
The Colosseum at Caesars Palace took to Facebook to issue a statement, informing fans that John began feeling ill while on his flight home from Chile:
During a recent, successful tour of South America, Elton contracted a harmful and unusual bacterial infection. During his return flight home from Santiago, Chile he became violently ill. Upon returning to the UK, Elton's doctors admitted him to hospital, where he underwent immediate treatment to remove the infection. After spending two nights in intensive care followed by an extended stay in the hospital, Elton was released from hospital on Saturday, April 22 and is now comfortably resting at home per doctor’s advice. Infections of this nature are rare and potentially deadly. Thankfully, Elton’s medical team identified this quickly and treated it successfully. He is expected to make a full and complete recovery. Elton will be returning to his schedule of live performances in Twickenham, England on Saturday, June 3.
'I am so fortunate to have the most incredible and loyal fans and apologize for disappointing them. I am extremely grateful to the medical team for their excellence in looking after me so well,' said Elton.
The singer took to Instagram to thank his fans for all the get-well wishes.
"Woke up this morning to an avalanche of kindness and well wishes. I'm overwhelmed with gratitude," John wrote. "Thanks so much to everyone for reaching out. I'm resting well and getting stronger every day. I'm looking forward to getting back on tour in June."
The Instagram post received nearly 14,000 likes in just three hours. Hundreds of fans showed their support for the singer.
"I was so excited to see you next week, and was devastated to hear you were sick," wrote one Instagram user. "Please recover and come back strong."
