Beth Chapman, wife of Duane "Dog the Bounty Hunter" Chapman, has been diagnosed with throat cancer and is recovering after undergoing surgery to remove a tumor.

The star of television shows "Dog the Bounty Hunter" and "Dog and Beth: On The Hunt" announced her diagnosis in a letter to friends sent early September, according to Us Weekly.

"As most of you know I've spent a lifetime facing tests and challenges I didn't see coming and certainly never expected," Beth wrote. "I've been dealt my share of unexpected blows over the course of my almost fifty years but nothing as serious as the one I heard from my doctors two weeks ago when they uttered those dreaded three words, 'You have cancer.'"

Beth stayed upbeat in the letter, telling her friends she won't be beaten by cancer.

"I realize the road I am about to travel will be rocky, full of unexpected twists and turns. But I know one thing for sure. A bend in the road is not the end of the road," she wrote.

"I will fight every step of the way," Beth added. "My husband and children are counting on me to be there for years to come. I am so very grateful to be surrounded by family and friends who have given me incredible support during this very challenging time."

Sadly, while Beth was in the hospital in Los Angeles, her dog, Delilah, died back at the Chapman's home in Hawaii.

"My very precious baby died she just waited and waited but mommy never came... I'm sick with [grief] from the loss of my fur baby were a good ol road dog girl...I'll love and miss you forever," Beth messaged friends, according to The Blast.

Later in September, Beth underwent surgery to have a tumor removed from her neck. According to her letter, the tumor was blocking her breathing and doctors recommended immediate surgery.

After the 13-hour surgery, which required doctors to cut Beth's neck from ear-to-ear, husband Duane released a statement saying doctors had removed a tumor the "size of a plum," according to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser.

"Her doctor said we won round one," he said. "We will know more later this week. Mahalo to everyone for their prayers."

During an early October episode of the couple's podcast, "Dog and Beth: Looking for Trouble," Duane updated fans on Beth's condition.

"I'm good and she's trying to do good," he said, according to Page Six. "On a 1 to 10 [scale] her pain is about a 9 so... she's not good."

Duane added that Beth was mostly bedridden, but got up when she could.

"This is not stopping her now... You just gotta keep going," he said.
