While most of the world has been supportive of Angelina Jolie's decision to have a double mastectomy, two right wing conspiracy web sites have sharply condemned her.
According Jezebel.com, Myriad Genetics patented the genes BRCA1 and BRCA2 in the 1990s. Those are the same breast cancer causing genes that Jolie carries, increasing her chances of breast cancer to 87 percent. As Jolie stated in the New York Times, that was why she underwent the life-changing surgery.
However, that's not a good enough reason for two right wing conspiracy sites, which have been attacking Jolie all week with dumb claims.
Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones' website InfoWars.com claimed today that a video slamming Jolie, produced by fellow conspiracy site Natural News, was unfairly censored by YouTube because it was “commercially deceptive."
In an accompanying article to the video, Mike Adams wrote on NaturalNews.com: "Angelina Jolie's double mastectomy P.R. stunt feeds into the profits of the trillion dollar industry which claims to own human genes, Natural News is now calling on Jolie to publicly denounce patents on human genes, including the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes she has now made famous."
Adams says that after Jolie’s announcement, Myriad Genetics' stock rose to a three-year high of $34.70 during trading on the NASDAQ.
"Her advocacy of double mastectomies is causing market values to sharply rise in the human genomics industry, where corporations own patents on human genes," claimed Adams.
However, in her article entitled "My Medical Choice," Jolie never advocated double mastectomies for anyone else and made it clear it was her decision for her own body.
"For any woman reading this, I hope it helps you to know you have options. I want to encourage every woman, especially if you have a family history of breast or ovarian cancer, to seek out the information and medical experts who can help you through this aspect of your life, and to make your own informed choices," wrote Jolie.
In his video, Adams called for Jolie, who is still recovering from major surgery, to publicly support his theory and denounce corporate ownership over human genes.
Adams also told viewers to go to Jolie’s Facebook pages and post messages telling her to publicly denounce “genetic enslavement."
Steve Watson wrote on InfoWars.com: "Thus, Jolie is directly responsible for feeding into the profits of the trillion dollar genetic patenting industry."
