A former bodybuilder died of liver cancer after a fight that lasted months. Before his death, he warned of the negative impact junk food had on his health.

Dean Wharmby was diagnosed with cancer in November and given the grim news that he had only weeks to live. The tumor in his liver was reportedly too large to operate on, though he was able to fight the progression of the disease through natural remedies and a strict diet.

“Dean showed us all no doom or gloom, even in his darkest times,” Wharmby’s partner, Charlotte Rigby, said.

“He fought through times where some people would crumble with a smile on his face and a big heart and he never gave up. He had such strong beliefs and I know that where he is now, he is free.”

Wharmby acknowledged that his cancer might have been caused in part by a 10,000 calorie a day diet consisting of burgers, pizza and bacon washed down with multiple energy drinks. He also admitted to taking steroids early on in his career to help create the “perfect” bodybuilder’s physique.

The strict diet he imposed during his brave battle with the terminal cancer included a complete removal of sugar and meat from his daily food intake. He also took vitamins and used natural medicine.

Wharmby, a father of one, was praised by thousands on Facebook following his untimely passing.

“What a remarkable man he was,” Facebook user Hayley Payne wrote. “Dean was such an inspirational guy, with incredible strength. His positivity was incredible and he's captured the hearts of many people.”

Another Facebook friend, Mike Hurst, added that Wharmby was “the most powerful guy” he ever met as well as a “miracle of spirit and soul."
