A photo that went viral showed a baby inside of a bizarre-looking X-ray machine, and gave new meaning to the phrase “test tube baby.”
The photo, which was posted to Reddit, showed the unnamed baby with its arms straight up next to its head, looking dumbfounded and wide-eyed inside of what appeared to be a glass tube.
The strange device, known as a Pigg-O-Stat, is described as “an all-in-one pediatric immobilization device designed for positioning infants and young children for an appropriate [X]-ray without significant complications,” according to its website.
“I worked as a floor guy buffing and scrubbing at a hospital and every time [I] got to [X-]ray and [R]adiology[,] I always saw this machine sitting in the hallway and had to move it,” Redditor Bretstar, who posted the photo, wrote. “I never once saw the [X-]ray tech grab it. I had no idea that is what this was. This pic answers a 3[-]year[-]old question I never asked. Thanks.”
Other Redditors later posted their own experiences with the odd machine, with many saying they were initially baffled by what exactly it did.
“My daughter was in one of those when she was just turning two,” one Redditor wrote. “She's usually going to cry about anything out of the ordinary but not not [sic] this, for some reason. However, while she was being stoic in the area above the table, her legs were cycling a hundred miles an hour the whole time, not unlike Scooby and Shaggy when they are scared and have begun to run but haven't yet moved.”
