Are You Scared of Seeing a Therapist?

Publish date:

It's not unusual for those withsocialanxiety(SA) to fear seeing a therapist. Those who haven't seen a therapist or a mental health professional before are often anxious about the prospect. We have a stigma in our society that says that those who seek mental help must have something seriously wrong with them.

Getting past this fear is important. For most, the first visit to a therapist or counselor is enough to allay the fears and begin the path to wellness. For those with SA, however, the road may be a little bumpier.

The first step is to take the first step.Therapy can't help if you don't use it. You can't begin to get over your anxiety if you don't first face it, one on one, and get the help you need to defeat it.

The anxieties and reasons you've likely listed for yourself as excuses not to seek help are just excuses. You can do this and you should.

The good news is that the first few sessions, while the hardest to attend for you, will also be the most beneficial.A good therapist is not going to hold your anxiety about visiting him or her against you. They understand what you are going through and only want to help.

Going into therapy is a big first step, but it's the first step towards a better life.
