After Watching ‘Homeland’ Dick Cheney Refused Wireless Defibrillator, Fearing Terrorists Would Hack It

In an upcoming “60 Minutes” interview former vice president Dick Cheney tells CBS’s Dr. Sanjay Gupta that he ordered the wireless capability on his defibrillator be disabled after watching an episode of "Homeland."

Cheney was worried that terrorists would hack into the wireless and assassinate him by shocking his heart, just like on the Showtime series.

“I was aware of the danger, if you will, that existed, but I found it credible because I knew from the experience we’d had, the necessity for adjusting my own device, that it was an accurate portrayal of what was possible," said Cheney.

Cheney recently wrote a book about his health, along with cardiologist Dr. Jonathan Reiner, called “Heart.” Cheney had a heart transplant 20 months ago.

“To have a device that maybe somebody on a ropeline, or someone in the next hotel room or downstairs might be able to hack into,” said Dr. Reiner. “I worried that someone could kill you.”

The vice president in “Homeland” was a terrorist target because he not only ordered a drone strike that killed school children in the Middle East, but also covered up the incident.
