Four Detroit children have been placed in foster care after one of them told police that "Mom cooks me in the oven like a turkey," according to the Boston Herald. The mother, Reyna Valentino, was arraigned on two counts of torture and two counts of child abuse, with a bond set at $1 million.
According to police, Valentino went to a neighbor’s house after burning her four-year-old daughter in the oven at 3:30 p.m. on January 23rd, begging the neighbor to call 911. She then asked the police to come and get her.
The young victim later told police, “She said that her heart’s hurt and broke,” referring to her mother. “Mommy doesn’t love me anymore. Mama’s going to hurt me again. She hurts me with a nail and cooks me in the oven like a turkey.”
According to wivb.com:
“The report disclosed that while the children's father had gone to pick his two boys up from school, his wife used a heated nail or a screwdriver to burn the 4-year-old girl's lower eyelid, police said. Then she put the girl in the turned-on oven, creating sear lines on her back.”
In addition, the Boston Herald reports:
“Another daughter told investigators her mother once hit her with a crowbar. All five children are in foster care and doing fine, Bielecki said. Valentino was immediately taken to Detroit Receiving Hospital for evaluation after her arrest.”
Valentino’s next hearing is set for February 12th.
