With the expected launch of the highly anticipated massiivly multiplayer online game TERA from Bluehole Studios and En Masse Entertainment exactly one week away and the looming legal woes prevent gamers from getting there hands on the game? According to the official Tera site, launch is still scheduled for Tuesday, May 1st. The latest word according to En Masse was 'Not Guilty' verdict by the Korean courts after NCSoft sued employees of Bluehole Studio for allegedly stealing trade secrets from use in the new title. The former employees' fate still hangs in the balance, however.
The site officially states, "NCsoft hasn't filed a motion (known as an injunction) here in the US to prevent the launch of TERA." They further state, "For the record, after extensive Korean proceedings, Bluehole Studio was NOT found to have made any use of any NCsoft trade secrets in the form of source code or game design. In fat, TERA didn't even exist when the Korean case against the former NCsoft employees arose."
After having personally played the game, I can see why there is a clamor in the MMO world. The game is stunning, challenging, unique and will be a formidable opponent to existing leaders in the genre.
I hear there is also some heated debate about the amount of blood in the game but I say let it be. Of course the overwhelming number of posts to the forums about this matter prove the matter is far more important to some.
