White House Down did not do well this weekend in theaters. It cost $150 million to make but only made $25.7 million.
Compared to other cinema flops like After Earth and Jack the Giant Slayer, the movie did worse.
A Sony spokesperson said, "We couldn't be more proud or supportive of the film Roland, Channing and Jamie created. This weekend's launch is just the beginning. While 'White House Down' opened in a few smaller countries this weekend, it will not begin to open in major overseas territories until mid-July and it will continue to roll out overseas well into the fall."
It is not known why the movie, with a PG-13 rating and starring Channing Tatum was a flop, but Sony is optimistic it will do better in the coming weeks.
