Daniel Day Lewis is “the President of the United States…clothed in IMMENSE power” and Oscar bait. I can’t wait to see Lincoln, for many reasons, not least of which is that I am fan of Spielberg-ian excess. I must say that this international verson of the trailer outdoes the domestic version on that front. A lot of great actors acting their faces off delivering rousing speeches and dramatic lines dramatically while John Williams typically grand score swells beneath it all. Much like his last film War Horse, it just seems more spectacle than story – driven narrative. But as I said, it doesn’t matter. I’ll be there regardless. (And I could be wrong.)
“Steven Spielberg directs two-time Academy Award® winner Daniel Day-Lewis in “Lincoln,” a revealing drama that focuses on the 16th President’s tumultuous final months in office. In a nation divided by war and the strong winds of change, Lincoln pursues a course of action designed to end the war, unite the country and abolish slavery. With the moral courage and fierce determination to succeed, his choices during this critical moment will change the fate of generations to come.”
With a script by Tony winner Tony Kushner, Lincoln costars an amazing cast that includes Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tommy Lee Jones, David Strathairn, John Hawkes,James Spader, Lee Pace, Jackie Earle Haley, Michael Stuhlbarg, Hal Holbrook, Walton Goggins, Bruce McGill, Tim Blake Nelson, David Oyelowo, Joseph Cross, and David Costabile. The film opens in limited release in the US on November 9 and wider on November 16. The UK will get it 25th January. See all of our coverage here.
