In this clip from Richard LaGravanese’s Beautiful Creatures, we get a new look at bayou femme-fatale (and witch) Ridley Duchannes. While it’s a tad disconcerting to see little Emmy Rossum playing a sort of supernatural sex-kitten, I suppose it’s a natural progression for the actress since her sexuality was awakened by Gerard Butler in the Phantom of the Opera when she was just sixteen. (Ya know, there are so many things I could add to that, but I’ll just let you think your own deviant thoughts about that one.)
Following that, we have a 2nd featurette from the film with the amazing cast that includes Rossum, Emma Thompson, Jeremy Irons, Dame Eileen Adkins, Thomas Mann and Viola Davis. Alice Englert (Ginger & Rosa) and Alden Ehrenreich (Stoker) star as the young lovers.
‘Beautiful Creatures,’ which is based on the first novel in the New York Times best-selling series of the same name by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, is an intense coming-of-age love story set in the small Southern town of Gatlin. The film follows local boy Ethan Wate, played by Ehrenreich, and a mysterious new girl, Lena Duchannes, portrayed by Deutch, who uncover dark secrets about their families, their history and their town. Ethan has been looking forward to the day when he can leave Gatlin. However, he’s haunted by dreams of a beautiful girl he’s never met. Lena then moves into the town’s oldest and most infamous platation, and Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her. He sets out to uncover the connection between them.
Lena is struggling to conceal her power and a curse that has plagued her family for generations. But her secret isn’t destined to remain hidden forever in Gatlin.
Written by director LaGravenese (PS I Love You, Freedom Writers – which makes me wonder why Hilary Swank is not involved), Beautiful Creatures will open in the UK on 13th February and the following day February 14 in the US.
