Sly Stone’s life has certainly changed for the worse after years of substance abuse and financial mismanagement. Sly is now homeless and living in a van in Los Angeles.
Sly lives in the van on a street in Crenshaw, where a retired couple make certain he gets a daily meal and allow him to shower in their home.
The Sly & the Family Stone star, now 68, still records music using his laptop computer.
“I like my small camper,” Sly claims. “I just do not want to return to a fixed home. I cannot stand being in one place. I must keep moving.”
Stone fell on rough times after he was reportedly defrauded out of royalties and his drug addiction.
The singer, whose real name is Sylvester Stewart, brought a lawsuit against his former manager, Jerry Goldstein, for $50 million. Sly claims the manager had stolen his royalties for over 20 years.
But the singer is ready to work with today’s artists and hopes they will give him a chance.
Sly stated, “My music is a format that will encourage you to have a song you won’t forget. That’s why I got so much money, that there are so many people around, and that’s why I am in court. Millions of dollars!
“But now please tell everybody, please, to give me a job, play my music. I’m tired of all this s**t, man.
“But, with new energy, it will feel good to step on stage. I see all the guys playing those old songs. Let these guys know, like Lady Gaga, let me come in, just let me come in and pay me if you like it.”
