Remember when I told you how much I admired Viola Davis? Well, the Oscar nominated actress is back with a new film called Won’t Back Down that also stars Maggie Gyllenhaal and Holly Hunter.
Two determined mothers, one a teacher, look to transform their children's failing inner city school. Facing a powerful and entrenched bureaucracy, they risk everything to make a difference in the education and future of their children.
Read the synopsis and you might be tempted to expect the usual treacle-filled inspirational Lifetime tearjerker. What I believe will elevate the material past that is the presence of those three women. Writer/director Daniel Barnz's last effort was Beastly, an updated version of Beauty and the Beast with Vanessa Hudgens and Alex Pettyfer that was not exactly well received, so I don’t know what to expect from him here. Judging from this first trailer it will be on Davis and Gyllenhaal to carry this film. Take a look.
Won’t Back Down also stars Oscar Isaac, Ving Rhame, Rosie Perez, Lance Reddick and Bill Nunn. It will e released in the US on September 28.
