Video: Movie Trailer for 'The Sweeney'

I’ve been talking about this one since November of 2011. British crime thriller The Sweeney, based on the 70’s television show of the same name and starring Ray Winstone, Damian Lewis and Gemma Arterton, has finally got a US release date and we’ve got a brand new trailer and that poster up top to celebrate!

While I know I’m not alone in my love for Brit crime thrillers, I have no doubt Damian Lewis’ newfound success on these shores as the star of “Homeland” has more than a little to do with the fact that we’re getting this, so thank you Mr. Lewis!

“Based on the original ITV cult classic TV show, THE SWEENEY will be a modernization of the London Flying Squad, directed by Nick Love (THE FOOTBALL FACTORY, THE FIRM) and co-written by Bafta Winner John Hodge (TRAINSPOTTING).

Set in present day England, THE SWEENEY will be packed full of fast cars, action and wise cracks as it follows Flying Squad detectives Jack Regan, (originally played John Thaw,) George Carter (original played by Dennis Waterman) and their team, as they work to keep the bad guys down!

Sometimes you have to act like a criminal to catch a criminal. Ray Winstone (The Departed) and Ben Drew (Plan B) star as part of an elite police unit in explosive action film, THE SWEENEY. Also starring Damian Lewis (Homeland) and Hayley Atwell (Captain America: The First Avenger)”

The Sweeney opens in the US on March 1.
