You want a horror film? THIS is a horror film. There’s nothing supernatural about Maniac with Elijah Wood, a remake of the 80’s horror flick of the same name. The monster here is all too human and looks like someone you’d pass on the street or sit next to on the subway every day with out suspicion. Now that’s scary!
We have three graphic, horrific, EXTREMELY NSFW clips, and as if that weren’t enough, the red-band trailer (also NSFW).
No aliens, no ghosts, no preternatural beasties, just Mr. Frodo filled with psycho-sexual rage, brutally killing young women and taking scalps for trophies (among other things). Holy sh*t!!
Just when the streets seemed safe, a serial killer with a fetish for scalps is back and on the hunt. Frank is the withdrawn owner of a mannequin store, but his life changes when young artist Anna appears asking for his help with her new exhibition. As their friendship develops and Frank’s obsession escalates, it becomes clear that she has unleashed a long-repressed compulsion to stalk and kill.
From the writer/director of P2 (a horror/thriller with Wes Bentley and Rachel Nichols), Franck Khalfoun, Maniac is a French production and premiered at the Cannes Film Festival last May. It finally opens in the UK on 15th March. IFC Midnight has the US distribution, so there should be a US date soon.
