Just as Josh Brolin did in Men in Black III, in Rian Johnson’s Looper, Joseph Gordon Levitt is playing a younger version of another of the film’s stars. Brolin did a wicked good Tommy Lee Jones impression as the younger K and Gordon-Levitt is doing a pretty good Bruce Willis in Looper. Despite all the time spent in the make-up chair, he doesn’t actually “look” like the younger Willis, but he’s doing a bang-up job on the voice and mannerisms.
Here’s a new UK trailer (and poster above) for Looper that gives us more plot clues than anything we’ve seen previously, probably too many. Proceed at your own risk:
Time travel will be invented, but it will be illegal and only available on the black market. When the mob wants to get rid of someone, they send their target 30 years into the past, where a “looper”—a hired gun, like Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt)—is waiting to mop up. Joe is getting rich and life is good. . . until the day the mob decides to “close the loop,” sending back Joe’s future self (Bruce Willis) for assassination.
Written by Johnson ( Brick,The Brothers Bloom) and also starring Emily Blunt, Paul Dano, Garrett Dillahunt and Jeff Daniels, Looperopens in the US and the UK on September 28.
