Rian Johnson’s Looper has been chosen as the opening night film of the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival. Emphasizing the ‘international’, we have a new UK poster as well as a new trailer that was created for the French market and does a better job of explaining time-travel than anything we’ve seen previously.
It’s also much more apparent that Joseph Gordon-Levitt is attempting to sound like Bruce Willis, with his distinctive Philly inflections, at a younger age and not just look like him.
In this futuristic action thriller, time travel will be invented – but it will be illegal and only available on the black market. When the mob wants to get rid of someone, they will send their target 30 years into the past, where a “looper” – a hired gun, like Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) – is waiting to mop up. Joe is getting rich and life is good… until the day the mob decides to “close the loop,” sending back Joe’s future self (Bruce Willis) for assassination.
Looper also stars Emily Blunt, Paul Dano, Piper Perabo, Garrett Dillahunt and Jeff Daniels. It opens in both the US and the UK on September 28.
