Just a week after the first trailer dropped, there is already another trailer for Chasing Mavericks starring Gerard Butler and Jonny Weston. This is a good sign. I’m really thinking that Walden Media (who also distributed Gerard Butler flick Nim’s Island) is going to do this right. We’ve been talking about Chasing Mavericks for awhile and as you can imagine, I was doing the demented poodle dance when we got trailer #1. You don’t want to know what I was doing when I found this one.
Trailer #2 is called “Frosty Version” and it is, shall we say, a little more G-centric. (G being Gerard Butler. C’mon people work with me here.) G plays Rick “Frosty” Hesson, local surfing legend who (reluctantly) takes young wannabe Jay Moriarty (Weston) under his wing and teaches him to survive the legendary Northern California surf break called Mavericks.
Once again, I have to state that I think G’s American accent is vastly improved (not that I personally thought it was ever all that bad) and I really do hope the obvious work he’s put in on it will silence his critics (I said ‘hope’. Hope springs eternal.) I’m sure he’s in for enough scrutiny of his surfing skills alone. I won’t rehash the story about how he almost died filming this movie. I’m sure it will be discussed ad infinitum when Butler hits the chat shows. (Here’s a funny clip if you really don’t know the story yet. It comes in at about the 7 min. mark):
Chasing Mavericks directed by Curtis Hanson with an assist by Michael Apted, also stars Abigail Spencer, Leven Rambin and Elisabeth Shue. It opens in the US on October 26 and 2nd November in the UK.
