Video: Google's Cool Tribute to Queen Singer Freddie Mercury

Publish date: paid tribute to the late British musician Freddie Mercury with an animated Google Doodle set to 'Don't Stop me Now' (video below). Visitors to Google's homepage found a video, that when clicked, played a flashback of his career and performing style.

Many of the animated songs featured a Google logo in the background. When clicked again or when the brief animation ends, the visitor would be taken to a search results page on Mercury.

Mercury was born Farrokh Bulsara on Sept. 5, 1946. He was a musician, singer and songwriter, and was best known as the lead vocalist of the rock band Queen.

He was remembered for his flamboyant stage persona and powerful vocals on hits such as ‘Bohemian Rhapsody' and ‘We Are the Champions.’

He died Nov. 24, 1991 due to bronchopneumonia brought on by AIDS, one day after publicly acknowledging that he had the disease.
