Victoria Beckham’s Rep Hits Back at PETA Over Croc-Skin Bags

Victoria Beckham’s rep has defended the former Spice Girl-turned-designer’s use of crocodile and lizard skin in her new handbag collection.

Beckham has come under fire from members of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) over her latest collection, which features purses made from crocodile and lizard skin, as well as calf leather.

It was reported in Britain’s Mirror newspaper that members of PETA planned to retaliate and douse the designer in a bucket of animal blood – cow or lizard – at her next UK public appearance”.

And a source adds that another rather sick suggestion was to pelt crocodile feet at her when she goes to an editors’ lunch in London next month. Victoria tries not to surround herself with bodyguards but her security has had to be increased.”

Meanwhile, Beckham’s rep has piped up on the debate.

Everyone is entitled to personal opinion and personal choice – as with all Victoria Beckham products these handbags are made to the highest quality and design.

These exotic skins sit strictly within the CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species) regulations within its category 2 rating, and are monitored at every step of production within super strict guidelines for shipping and selling.

The skins used in the collection are farmed in America again under very tight guidelines. And once the bags have been produced they are only approved to travel once they have been accredited with a further CITES certificate.”

Pelting her with crocodile feet? What a croc!
