In the newly-formed company’s biggest signing to date, Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant will reportedly leave his agent to sign with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation Sports, according to multiple reports.
Durant will now join a list of other high-profile athletes such as Robinson Cano, Victor Cruz, and Geno Smith, among others.
“We are honored and blessed to have worked on behalf of Kevin for a brief period of time,” Durant’s former agent Rob Pelinka of Landmark Sports told the Sports Business Journal. Durant, who finished second in the 2013 MVP voting and averaged just over 28 points per game, was with Landmark Sports for roughly a year.
“Durant wants Jay-Z to handle his branding,” a unanimous source close to Durant told Yahoo! Sports. “He had a chance to be with his idol and couldn't say no.”
The All-NBA First Team selection placed No. 5 on a Forbes’ list of the NBA’s top earners back in January and placed No. 12 on Sport’s Illustrated “Fortunate 50″ list of the highest-earning athletes back in May, ranking fifth among NBA players.
Durant, whose current endorsements include Nike, Sprint, and Skullcandy, just completed the second year of a five-year, $89 million maximum contract that runs through the 2015-16 season.
