That was Quick! Bristol Palin/Levi Johnston Engagement Off

On the same day that Brett Favre reportedly said he's going to retire again, another on again/off again relationship is off again -- the Bristol Palin-Levi Johnston engagement, round two.

It was barely three weeks ago on July 14 that Bristol and Johnston announced to the world -- via tabloid magazine -- that they were back together and would be getting married -- much to the shock and chagrine of Bristol's famous mother, whatshername.

Anyway, that bliss lasted just a few hours because later that evening Johnston told Bristol that there was a chance, just a chance, that he may have, oh, fathered a baby with another young woman. The unnamed woman has since denied that Johnston's seed was responsible. But it was enough for Bristol.

"It's over. I broke up with him," Bristol Palin told PEOPLE magazine in an exclusive telephone interview described as emotional. She added that Johnson felt "no remorse" over possibly fathering another child. Johnston, of course, is the father of Bristol's 19-month-old son, Tripp.

She told the magazine that she has only seen Johnston once since their extremely short Engagement II began. Bristol said she felt heartbroken, humiliated and trapped.

"The final straw was him flying to Hollywood for what he told me was to see some hunting show but come to find out it was that music video mocking my family," she says. "He's just obsessed with the limelight and I got played."

Sarah Palin told PEOPLE, "I wish for Bristol to be able to move forward in life with her same forgiving, gracious, optimistic spirit, but from henceforth she'll know to trust but verify. Bristol is strong, she is independent, and she knows what is right for her son."

Bristol says what is right for her son is a happy two-parent household. Although for the time being it appears it won't be with Johnston, Bristol says it will happen someday. "I have faith that I'll find it. Through this whole experience I know I need a man who's going to be completely honest with me and someone who loves me and Tripp and wants to be with him all the time. I also want someone who has religious beliefs and a good family."

The magazine reached out to Johnston for comment, but the calls were not returned.
