18-year-old Jameson Witty was sentenced to six months in jail on Thursday after he stole a piece of wreckage from Paul Walker’s crashed Porsche.

Witty and his 25-year-old accomplice, who will be sentenced in October, were caught on camera stealing parts of the wrecked Porsche Carrera GT around 10 p.m. on the night of the crash. The two took pieces from the car after a tow truck relocating it stopped at a red light.

After witnessing what had happened, the tow truck driver drove straight to Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and reported the incident.

“A witness saw a male exit a vehicle that was following the tow truck,” the report reads. “The male grabbed a piece of the wrecked Porsche off the tow truck bed. The male drove away with the stolen vehicle part.”

Witty was held on $20,000 bond. Although sheriffs recommended charges of grand theft and tampering with evidence, both Witty and his accomplice were charged with felony grand theft and two misdemeanors for destroying evidence. They were also charged with resisting, obstructing and delaying a peace officer.

Although Witty and his friend allegedly attempted to cash in on Walker’s untimely death, many Fast & Furious fans found the act to be heartless.

The Fast & Furious star passed away in a fiery car crash in Santa Clarita, California, after his friend Roger Rodas lost control of the car and it crashed into a concrete light pole. Walker’s death forced a temporary halt in the seventh film of the series.
