"Superman" Actor Jackie Cooper Dies at 88


Oscar-nominated actor Jackie Cooper, who played the newspaper editor of The Daily Planet in 1978′s Superman, has died. He was 88.

Cooper died on Tuesday at a hospital in Beverly Hills after a brief illness, his agent tells People.

“He was a lovely man and I will miss him,” she said.

Cooper started acting when he was 3, and was nominated for Best Actor at the age of 9 for the 1931 film Skippy. He also earned two Emmy awards for his directing work on M*A*S*H and The White Shadow.

He will be missed.
