Sir Elton John and his partner David Furnish have become parents to a baby boy, the singer’s rep says.
Son Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John was born on Christmas day via a surrogate in California. He weighed 7 lbs., 15 oz.
“We are overwhelmed with happiness and joy at this very special moment,” said a statement for the pair, who wed in 2005 after 12 years together.
“Zachary is healthy and doing really well, and we are very proud and happy parents.”
This is the couple’s first child.
A rep for the singer said that out of respect for the surrogate mother’s privacy, they would not be disclosing any further information.
The pair went down the surrogacy route after a failed adoption bid. John’s bid to adopt an HIV-positive child from the Ukraine last year was rejected, based on John’s age and that the country doesn’t recognise civil marriages.
