Sean Penn has fired back at Wyclef Jean after the singer branded him a “coke sniffer” for criticising his bid to run for president of Haiti.
Performing at Hot 97’s "On The Reggae Tip" event in New York City on Friday, the MC let rip with a few choice words for Penn.
While singing If I Was President, Wyclef morphed the lyrics to say:
“If I was president. I got a message for Sean Penn, maybe he ain’t see me in Haiti cuz he was too busy sniffing cocaine…”
He also had a message for his former Fugees bandmate Pras, who also raised a cynical eyebrow over his presidential bid.
“I got a message for Praswell, even though you don’t want to support me, I got love for you, even though you only kicked eight bars in the Fugees.”
Responding to Jean’s cocaine comments, Penn’s spokesperson issued this statement: “Mr. Jean is clearly unfamiliar with the physical demands put upon volunteers in Haiti. As aid workers there, the notion of depleting the body’s immune system thru the use of illicit drugs is ludicrous.
“More specifically, (Penn’s charity) J/P Haitian Relief Organization (aka JPHRO) has a ZERO tolerance policy for any and all illegal drugs.
“As the leader of this organisation, Sean Penn has not only set this policy, but adheres to it. That Mr. Jean would make such a false accusation is reckless and saddening, but not surprising.”
Ooh, Jean’s gonna love that parting shot. Actually, his response will probably be: “Yo Penn. What do you want me to do about that, bro? Roll over and fart rainbows?"
