Scarlett Johansson to Star in 'Cat on a Hot Tin Roof'

First Lindsay Lohan took on Liz Taylor and now Scarlett Johansson is taking on one of her iconic roles – sort of. ScarJo is soon to be making her Broadway debut in a revival of Tennesee Williams’ "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof". Taylor never played the role on stage, only famously starred as Maggie the cat in the film version opposite Paul Newman.

Scarlett’s Brick will be played by Abraham Lincoln- I mean Benjamin Walker (who, in fairness to the actor, was a stage veteran long before Hollywood called him to hunt vampires).

The really big news as far as I’m concerned: Ciaran Hinds will be playing Big Daddy! *swoon*

Set in the Mississippi Delta, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof is the story of Brick and his wife Maggie, who are celebrating the 65th birthday of Brick’s father, Big Daddy Pollitt. Big Daddy is bothered by the rocky relationship between his beloved son Brick, an aging football hero who has taken up drinking, and his beautiful and feisty wife Maggie. As the hot summer evening unfolds, the veneer of Southern Gentility slips away as unpleasant truths emerge.

“Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” at the Richard Rogers Theater begins previews on December 18 with opening night on January 17. The show is scheduled to run through March 30.(I definitely think a train ride to New York is in my future.) Rehearsals have begun and yesterday November 27, the cast gathered for a photocall at Sardi’s.
