"Saw 3D" Slashes Competition, Takes Weekend Box Office


Bloody hell: Saw 3D, the seventh and reportedly final chapter in the horror series about psychokiller Jigsaw’s murderous mayhem, has topped the US box office.

According to studio estimates, Saw 3D pulled in $24.2 million over the weekend, debuting as the Halloween weekend’s No. 1 movie.

Paranormal Activity 2 took second place with $17 million.

Meanwhile, the action comedy Red, starring Helen Mirren, Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman and Mary-Louise Parker, came in at No. 3, making $10.8 million.

Jackass 3D sank to fourth place with $8.4 million, and Matt Damon drama Hereafter rounds out the Top 5 with $6.4 million.
