Russell Crowe to Direct Movie About Comedian Bill Hicks

Publish date:

We can count on one mutilated hand the number of biopics that haven’t been either awful, cliché ticking fiction or simply a vehicle for Michael Sheen to show everyone how good he is at impressions.

We don’t expect the Bill Hicks film to buck that trend, especially as telephone-throwing, angry Neighbours actor Russell Crowe will be deciding where to point the cameras. It all promises to make the life of a very funny man into a very unfunny cinematic experience.

There aren’t really any other details. The role of Bill has yet to be cast, and screenwriter Mark Staufer (“That’s it Stoufer, you help”*) said this to some people:

"It is a huge role for someone, made all the more special, or downright scary, by the fact the director is an Oscar-winning actor like Russell".

Woah. The writer of this film is basically predicting that the lead actor will at some point be attacked by Crowe. What a terrible job acting is.

But who should play Bill Hicks? Who today possesses that same righteous rage and nuanced world view, whilst being devastatingly funny and profane? One name…

Michael McIntyre.
