Rock star Jack White flipped out on his celebrity audience at New York hotspot Don Hill's on Wednesday. The White Stripes frontman was playing the drums for his latest project, The Dead Weather, when he screamed at the audience, "F*** you, you hip motherf***ers! Why don't you rock the f*** out? Maybe I should go grab those free drinks and shove them down your throats, you hip motherf***ers!"
The audience for the Dead Weather's show that night included Mary-Kate Olsen (who reportedly rolled her eyes during White's diatribe), Liv Tyler, Keith Richards' model daughter Alexandra, Lenny Kravitz's daughter Zoe, Sean Lennon, and snowboarder Shaun White. It's unclear whether Jack White was talking directly to the celebrities, or to the entire crowd at Don Hill's that evening. The New York bar has received a makeover of late, and is attracting a more elite (read: too cool to dance) crowd.
White later apologized to the audience for his outburst. "I'm sorry I blew up at you guys earlier," he said. "Thanks for coming out."
White has a bit of a temper: in 2003, he and Jason Stollsteimer, the lead singer of the Von Bondies, got into a fistfight. White pled guilty to misdemeanor assault and battery, and was ordered to attend anger management classes. When asked about the incident, White didn't comment on the issue that provoked it, but simply said, "I was raised to believe that honor and integrity mean something and that those principles are worth defending."
