The opulent Cercle Haussmann near the Opéra de Paris played host to the €2,000 event's 567-player field.
Names like Team PokerStars Pro Arnaud Mattern, Thomas Bichon, Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier, Julian Brécard, Jose "Nacho" Barbero, EPT London champ David Vamplew and 2009 EPT San Remo winner Constant Rijkenberg all helped create a €979.776 prize pool.
But the €244,036 first-place prize on offer belonged to Rettenmaier, who entered the event with a Spanish Poker Tour win, 2010 WSOP final table appearance and $648,805 in career live tournament earnings on his resume.
The Titan Poker sponsored pro came into the final table as the chip leader and never looked back, beating Basil Yaïche heads-up to take the title.
Here's how the final table finished up:
1 Marvin Rettenmaier €244,036
2 Basil Yaiche €153,000
3 Julien Jolivet €86,200
4 Michael Bouaziz €57,800
5 Jerome Hoen €45,500
6 Alexandre Bonnin €34,200
