Police Want to Question Kobe Bryant About 'Assaulting' Man at Church

San Diego police want to question Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant after he was accused of allegedly "assaulting" a man during a church service on Sunday.

The 21-year-old man says Bryant grabbed his wrist and took his cell phone because Bryant thought the young man was taking pictures of him at the Carmel Valley Catholic Church.

The young man also said that Bryant gave him his phone back after checking it for pictures and not finding any. San Diego Police Detective Gary Hassen told Reuters, "Detectives have the case and are hoping to talk with Mr. Bryant."

The unidentified man was taken to a hospital for treatment following the altercation. Even though the individual filed a police report, the man told police he would not be available for an interview until after August 24. According to reports, police will be unable to speak with Bryant until after they interview the alleged victim.

In 2004, Kobe Bryant publicly apologized for an incident the previous year in which he was accused of sexually assaulting a 19-year-old woman in Colorado. The case was dropped when the woman refused to testify. Bryant later admitted to a sexual encounter, which he believed to be consensual.
