We have some cool new images from Tim Burton's Dark Shadows to share with you, courtesy of Empire. As someone who used to race home to see the black and white television show after school, I think Burton looks to be paying homage to that goth classic .
Johnny Depp (left with Tim Burton) stars as Barnabas Collins and he definitely looks like his hair and makeup are modeled on that of Jonathan Frid. (I read it in more than one place that Depp looked like Eddie Munster. Which means one person said it and then the web slingshotted it around. Ridiculous).
The below photo depicts the main cast from left to right; Helena Bonham Carter (Dr. Julia Hoffman), Chloe Moretz (Carolyn Stoddard), Eva Green (Angelique Bouchard), Gulliver McGrath (David Collins), Bella Heathcote (Victoria Winters), Depp, Ray Shirley (Mrs. Johnson), Jackie Earle Haley (Willie Loomis), Jonny Lee Miller (Roger Collins) and Michelle Pfeiffer (Elizabeth Collins Stoddard). And all of them are spot on. Compare it to the original cast pic at the bottom. That's the one Burton used to create the "look."
Warner Bros. synopsis: In the year 1752, Joshua and Naomi Collins, with young son Barnabas, set sail from Liverpool, England to start a new life in America. But even an ocean was not enough to escape the mysterious curse that has plagued their family. Two decades pass and Barnabas (Depp) has the world at his feet-or at least the town of Collinsport, Maine. The master of Collinwood Manor, Barnabas is rich, powerful and an inveterate playboy…until he makes the grave mistake of breaking the heart of Angelique Bouchard (Green). A witch, in every sense of the word, Angelique dooms him to a fate worse than death: turning him into a vampire, and then burying him alive. Two centuries later, Barnabas is inadvertently freed from his tomb and emerges into the very changed world of 1972. He returns to Collinwood Manor to find that his once-grand estate has fallen into ruin. The dysfunctional remnants of the Collins family have fared little better…
Dark Shadows bows in theaters on May 11, 2012.
