Philip Seymour Hoffman is opening up about his drug abuse and the recent abuse that sent him to detox.
Hoffman told TMZ that he struggled with drug abuse 23 years ago, but that he kicked the habit. However, a year ago, Hoffman began using pills again and it eventually escalated to him sniffing heroin. Hoffman says the heroin use only lasted a week before he checked himself into a 10-day detox facility.
Hoffman says he is now clean and back on a movie set in Europe. He credits "a great group of friends and family" for helping him get clean.
Hoffman is the father of three children with costume designer, Mimi O'Donnell. Hoffman won an Oscar in 2006 for his portrayal of Truman Capote in Capote.
